- Serve with as much power, depth, and topspin as possible to push your opponent back and to set up an offensive shot on your 3rd shot.
- Serve cross court to maximize the amount of court you have to hit to and to push your opponent further from the center of the court.
- Serve into your opponent’s weakness which is typically their backhand side.
- In the deuce court, align yourself close to the center mark for your serve. Serving from close to the center followed by shifting left is the best way to favor your forehand side. (for a right hander)
- Shift more or less based on the angle your opponent has with their return. Also based on whether they are hitting a forehand or a backhand.
- Heavily favor cross court serves to your opponent’s backhand when serving in the ad court (against a right hander) to attack their weakness and pull them away from the center of the court.
- Shift further from the center mark in the ad court to create a better angle at your opponent’s backhand and to favor your forehand more heavily. (for a right hander)
