  • Lob Serve
  • Definition—a high arcing serve that bounces high into your opponent’s strike zone after bouncing.
  • Your opponent may have difficulty generating power or spin off of a lob serve due to the lack of pace on it.
  • Stance should be closed.
  • Bend knees to easily swing from underneath the ball to create loft on the serve.
  • A lob serve is far more effective when hit with good depth.
  • Keep wrist firm throughout the swing. Avoid slicing underneath the ball.
  • Paddle face should be slightly open but most of the ball’s height should come from your upward swing path.
  • To generate topspin, start the paddle very low, swing more sharply upwards, and contact the ball with a more flat paddle face.
  • Aim primarily down the middle since your opponent will have plenty of time to hit their preferred shot anyway.
  • Vary the height of your lob serve from very high to slightly high.
  • The lob serve can add variety to your serve and throw off your opponent’s timing when used as a change-up tactic.

Pro Tips

BEN JOHNS

My favorite strategy drill is the Backhand Volley Attack from the Ad Court because it such an effective shot. Practice this and you will win more points!

COLLIN JOHNS

My favorite drill is the Dink Reset Drill because it is so important to work on staying patient and ressetting yourself.

DEKEL BAR

I love to drive the ball so the Drive and Drop Drill is a key component of my game.
