- Volley Basics
- Definition of a volley - any ball that is struck out of the air.
- Contact the ball out in front of your body.
- Keep your backswing simple and compact to ensure solid contact, particularly when you have little reaction time.
- Power is created by solid contact and proper timing. Swing should come from the shoulder and rotation of your hips/core. Minimize the amount of wrist and elbow movement during your swing. Angle your volley down to your opponents feet as much as possible.
- Your grip should ideally be in continental/handshake to make switching from forehand to backhand smooth. Make contact as high as possible to give yourself the best angle for clearing the net and keeping the ball in the court. This also gives you a better angle to hit to your opponents feet.
