PICKLEBALL 360
- Big Swing Offensive Dink
- Ben Johns

Hi, I'll be going over the technical aspects of a big swing offensive dink. So what I mean by a big swing offensive dink is in contrast to a normal dink where we're taking a nice easy small controlled stroke this some more advanced shot to kind of throw off your opponents. So we'll be dinking with a slightly bigger stroke than usual. So you can see I'm going over the shoulder accelerating but ending up still hitting a normal dink. So the reason I like this shot and it's nice to have is that every time you take a big swing your opponent's think that you might attack the ball this can get them jumping and put them in an awkward position for the actual dink that you hit not only that but when you do attack the ball, they may have thought that one would be a dink. So it's essentially disguising your shot more by virtue of making every shot look the same. It's also something just very fun to try and see if you can get your opponents flat-footed or off the wrong foot and maybe even break some ankles. And of course pickleball is all about fun. So it's always fun to try something new and experiment with a new shot. So a couple things you want to keep in mind are first the most important thing I find for this shot is where your balance is at. If you're on the heels of your feet while you're swinging generally that ball is gonna pop up and go too far and become attackable. The main thing for me is as I come through the zone. I'm transferring my feet the weight on my feet to the front to the balls of my feet. So I'm very balanced weight is out in front secondly to make this shot look like it might be attacked your accelerating through the Zone. But as you come down your decelerating so it's fast up here but slowing down here so you can still dink that ball effectively. As far as the spin and the wrists go generally you're coming a little bit over this ball. So the paddle is slightly flat and you're coming upwards on it and that'll generate a little bit of topspin. The wrist is pretty much not moving. You're still keeping it locked so that you're able to generate that top speed by coming up. underneath the ball if you use too much wrist. It's gonna go too far and become attackable. All right. Yeah. So a big way to take advantage of this shot is that you can hit the ball often deeper than you would a normal Dink. And the reason for that is when you hit with a large swing you'll find people often back pedal or go up on their heels or jump up and if they're jumping or on their heels a slightly deeper dink can put them even in in a worse position where normally they might be able to reach out of the air. But in this case, they're not able to so that's one of the big points this shot that can really make it effective. one last thing Is we already went over how effective it is to also attack with the same swing? Because you don't see that one coming. It still looks like a dink if you've been doing that the whole time right? So don't be afraid to mix in an attack with these kind of dinks with the same swing. And there you have the big swing offensive dink.
