PICKLEBALL 360
- Backhand Drop Cross Court
- Ben Johns

Hi, I'll be going over the technical aspects of the backhand drop Cross Court. So of course with a third shot drop, our object is to get the ball into the kitchens that we can get up to the kitchen line. Your drop may not always go exactly in the kitchen. It can go a little outside of it. The basic objective is just allow yourself to get to the net as far as the height goes A good rule of thumb to think about a good window to aim for is about a foot above the level of the net and to where the peak of the ball would never be above your opponent's head. The first two things you want to think about are your swing path? And the face of your paddle you want the face to be slightly open and a down top swing to get that nice trajectory up and over the net and dropping in the kitchen. Next you want to think about your wrists your wrist should be cocked slightly upwards and this is so that when we bend it like this, we don't start flicking our wrists. We hit it too high and we lose control. Another very important thing that's often overlooked. Is your strike zone? You want to move your feet in such a way so that you get in a position that allows you to hit that ball. In an easy spot in your strikes at every time if I'm reaching for the ball. Out here over here. They're kind of in here. It's not gonna be very good or if I'm on my back foot. It's gonna be awkward. So what you want to do is get that ideal position to where it's about knee-high slightly in front of you. If you can get your perfect position, every time everything else is going to come a lot easier. Another thing is your stance your stance should be semi closed which means that right foot leads on the backhand for a riding. We don't want to be completely open like this because this usually pops the ball up. And we don't want to be completely closed just because it's unnecessary. So another part that you want to think about is the spin of the ball oftentimes people ask should I be getting backs for the ball? It looks like you have backspin in the ball is important answer that is all the spin. I'm getting is incidental just for my swing path. and stroke and it's not a necessity for this shot. It's unnecessary. So don't try to do anything other than control the ball where you want it on your third shot drop. The spin is definitely not important or needed for what you want to do with it. The reason we're hitting this ball Cross Court and not practicing down the line like we do in warm-ups and a match is that your cross cord drop should be your go-to drop. And the reason for that is you're going over the lower part of the net to the further part of the core and that makes the down the line less preferable and that's why we practice the Cross Court. And there you have the backhand Cross Court third shot drop.
