PICKLEBALL 360
- Backhand Half Volley Dink
- Ben Johns

Hi, I'll be going over the technical aspects of the backhand half volley dink. First of all, this shot is intended to be a very defensive shot. You can simply get back in the kitchen every time it should be one of your primary. defensive Dinks The reason I like this shot a lot is because it may just be the easiest shot to get back off of spin or Pace because it's very easy to neutralize the distinguishing feature of the half. Volley is taking the ball as soon as it hits the ground. Whereas the regular dink you wait for the ball to bounce and hit its peak. The half volley is at the instant the ball hits the ground. Some mechanical parts of this shot are first the backswing you can see that in this swing. I'm not starting. Back here. I'm not taking a full swing. I'm basically starting out in front of my body and just going slightly forward and slightly up. You can also see the paddle is a little bit open-faced and that's because we're taking the ball from the lowest point you possibly can. So you're gonna need to get it up and over the net first of all. Because we're hitting with that height. We also want to make sure that the follow-through isn't big because we're not hitting with a lot of pace right now because we're trying to get it to bounce in the kitchen. You also want to make sure that as you're hitting the shot because you're making contacts. So low your knees are also bent you want to stay low with the ball. Another important aspect of this shot is the footwork. You're going to be moved around a little bit when you're receiving dinks and to hit a good half. Volley. You need to have your body. In front of the ball. So if you're moving to the side, if you're moving forward, you're moving backward, you're gonna need to move your feet and position yourself in front of the ball. So your paddle can reach out in front of you and take that ball right as its bouncing. And there you have the backhand half volley dink.
