PICKLEBALL 360
- Backhand Roll Offensive Dink
- Ben Johns
Hi, I'll be going over the technical aspects of the backhand roll offensive dink. So most dinks are hit underneath the ball. Something you could add to your repertoire that makes you more dangerous as a dinker is hitting with topspin. So you can see that I'm coming up and over the ball generating Top Spin as I hit the reasons. I like this shot a lot or you can hit it with more Pace than a normal dink because the Top Spin brings it down and also top some can be difficult for your opponents to deal with because it jumps a little bit off the court and makes it more difficult to time. So some technical aspects that you want to keep in mind. Our first the wrist is up. We're not dropping the wrists like this. We're keeping the wrist up here so that we can come from underneath the ball and up over the shot. Now another thing you want to consider is the loft of your paddle. As you hit the paddle should be approximately flat with the ball and the upward swing is what generates the Top Spin combined with the forward trajectory. If anything your paddle may also be slightly closed. It should never be open-faced. You're either flat or slightly closed. Another good thing is of course bending your knees and getting low is gonna help you drive from down to up if you're standing up here. It's a lot more difficult to come from underneath the ball and control the ball instead. We want to get low. with the ball Another thing you can see is that I'm not just getting Top Spin. I'm getting a little bit of side spin because I'm hitting Cross Court to do this. We want to be hitting the outside of the ball and by that. I mean if this is the ball coming at me, I want to be hitting the far side of the pickleball over here. This allows me to get Top Spin. It allows me to get side Spin and get it back over to the Cross Court where I want it. This shot is driving my opponent slightly backwards with the pace and the spin and it also has often a severe. Cross-core angle that'll drive them off the court in the horizontal Dimension also. So when is this shot good to hit if I am off balance or trying to recover or it's has some Pace or some spin? It's probably not a good time to be hanging that shot. And instead you should be hitting a standard ink like I am right now, but as soon as you get one that's in front of you and you're in a good position. That would be a time to hit your offensive dink. So you can see all of these are in front of me and I'm in a good position as soon as I get in a bad position. I'm not going to be hitting this anymore. And there you have the backhand roll offensive dink.
